To be honest, i prefer the stock 405 indies, to all the different special makes of them.

I really like the new Chromexcel version and I think that is a nice addition which I'll probably pick up sometime in the future. The Kudu is cool and would probably make a great winter beater boot, but they are a little pricey for that so I think I'll stick with my Katahdins for that. The Leather Soul version of the Kudu is definitely nicer.

I'm a little dissapointed to hear the standard 405 is going to a leather lining though, I like the cotton duck lining myself.

as much as I love my standard 405's, I definitely plan to resole them with the commando sole when the time comes. I've almost killed myself walking on icy sidewalks with the standard flat neoprene soles. Otherwise I have to say they are one of the best models of footwear ever made, even though they are perhaps getting a little too popular at this time.

Doctor, I believe if you get on Tom's pre-order list he can order you any size. But you have to do it as a pre-order. I would email him if I were you and ask and also see if he has anything you like on the horizon.

Personally I think Leather Souls are better than these but I could see others wanting these. It is a win/win for me because I want Alden to do well.
