In the market for a suit...

Ok...I'm going to a wedding in three weeks and am in the market for a new suit. The only one I have is a rather boxy Men's Warehouse affair that I really don't like.

What I'm looking for is something slim yet classic. Perhaps three-buttons. Almost 60s in style. Maybe black - but I am open to suggestions.

I can spend about $600 - but, honestly, would prefer to spend less. As the name implies, I'm in NYC - which you'd think would be a help but in my price range seems to be more of a hindrance.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Get yourself to the Woodbury Commons Premium outlets in the Central Valley (drive, or take one of a million buses there). You can get an Emporio Armani suit for under $400. This is the biggest outlet mall in the world, as far as I know. At $600, you might even be able to swing yourself a Gucci or a Prada, or one of a hundred different premium brands at the stores there (which range from Barney's outlet to Saks of fifth to Zegna to Iceberg to Etro.

I'm in NYC also and just bought a skinny black Valentino suit at Century 21 for $250. Go to either of the locations they have. One in Brooklyn and one downtown in the financial district. Just make sure you bring it to a tailor afterwards, so the suit looks like you bought it at Bergdorf's. The most expensive suits they have their aren't even over $500, and for this price you can get Canali, Fendi, Valentino, Boss, Cerruti, ect...

Plus, this save you the trip to Woodbury, which is great also.

Classic Sixties style huh? Like the Kennedy suits? Well, Polo actually used to make a suit called the Kennedy that was a pretty good classic suit. But makers I would look at for a slime, modern, black suit are Gucci, Prada, Helmut Lang, and Jil Sander. All of these are pretty pricey though, even at the outlets. As I've posted before, for moderately priced suits, I always recommend Emporio Armani. I just bought a suit there for $360, and for $600, you could probably swing a pair of shoes or a shirt and tie and a belt too.

A neat classic style....Joseph Abboud. For an all purpose, "natural" shoulder look, why not try Brooks Brothers?
