this one is perfect (to me) other than the navy color and the price.

I think the J.Peterman catalogue, offers the real, navy issue. I know they used, to . . . if you're looking for gray . . . J. Crew is in your price range.

I got a great one from Banana a few weeks ago, get compliments all the time. Nice shape and fit. Its gray. Its $250, and I got the small even though I am 5'11'' 150lbs. Fits real snug.

A friend of mine got a good-looking one in that price range at Club Monaco last year. I doubt the quality was outstanding, but it did look nice.

If you haven't already, you might post this in the streetwear and denim thread.

I wiil chime in by recommending eBay. I just scored a fantastic vintage genuine Navy issue last week. It was made in 1967 so it is 100% wool and true navy blue (the new ones are black). It is a 44R with a nice slim fit, which was surprising. I will post some photos shortly.

STP Gloverall peacoats for $160. Excellent fabric, but fit is boxier than the designer ones.

I agree with comments in another post that the real navy issue peacoats may not be the best choice for the narrow reason that their fabric is considerably less soft.

I really recommend Sterlingwear. I just got my Authentic in Oxford Grey, and I love it. The fabric's not cashmere, but there are a lot of things that are much rougher than Melton wool that people wear frequently. Harris Tweed comes to mind.

These Polo Explorer coats have been mentioned before in another thread, but I think they're really nice for the going price on ebay (which has unfortunately risen by about $100 in the last month!)

I'm thinking of getting one and swapping out the brass buttons with some black anchor motif to tone it down a little. There are several on eBay right now.

Here's a medium (the listing pic is incorrect, but the other pics are good)

Here's one in large

One in XL

Here's another in large, with a much longer length, everything else the same.

Another long one, with some RRL detailing

And so on. There are tons of them.

Alternatively, there are other Polo peacoats not made in italy with more standard black plastic buttons for much, much less on ebay.

The epaulettes on the Explorer coats are a bit much though.

I agree. One seller reported that they are sewn on with only basting-style stitches. They may be entirely removable.

Anyone have one of these? Are they slim? They appear to be a couple of inches longer than a suit (36" or so). Is the fabric substantially nicer than other peacoats?

Do many coats in this style have 10 buttons like these do? It's quite a few!
I like the belted back, however, which I imagine slims the coat up substantially.

What, you don't like to look as if you go to the same tailor as Michael Jackson?! Well, I like the touch of theatricality, which goes nicely with the cut -- along the lines of Ralph's Black Label slim fit silhouette. I guarantee you that the very heavy 100 percent wool fabric, as well as the construction far exceed standard issue Sierra Trading Post models: this coat is beautifully made in Italy by Corneliani, with sensational styling and details. I purchased both the peacoat length version of this coat and the full-length, too. The coat illicits compliments from strangers every time I wear it. In fact, I have a size Medium NWT peacoat-length available for purchase if anyone is looking for one at below even ebay price -- I bought a M first before deciding that I need is large. (I'm 6'2 and usually wear a 40L or 42L in an overcoat).
