Someone did a thread recently exposing the details in difference between the course weave (CW)and fine weave (FW) grenadine ties. I have SF to thank for kick-starting my grenadine addiction, here's what I have so far ...

From the left:

Black Paul Winston FW - a steal at $42 but not sure when I will wear it other than funerals as I like to inject a bit of colour in my outfits and the tie is the most convenient vehicle to do so. Any other suggestions for wearing a black tie??

Dark Navy Sam Hober CW - already worn it a few times but like to combine it with a red gingham shirt or a red pocker square for colour.

Aubergine Paul Winston FW - debuted on this week's WAYWRN challenge with a lavendar mini check gingham shirt.

Red thrifted FW - probably my most-used and most versatile grenadine. If you go to Paul Winston he has a 'burgundy' which is exactly the same as this. I would call it dark scarlet myself as burgundy to me would be closer to that aubergine colour.

Electric blue Charles Tyrwhitt CW - haven't had it on much, these are comparable to Hober in weave, size, quality etc. Very nice but limited colour choices as opposed to Hober who has every colour you will want.

Mauve Nautica FW - picked this up for about $20 when I was first exploring grenadines. As you would expect it doesn't have the heft or quality of the others so might not get worn much.

Silver gray Charles Tyrwhitt CW - looks nice in a non-business outfit with a royal/french blue shirt and navy suit.

I love these ties as you don't have to worry about pattern matching, yet due to their texture they still offer more than a shiny satin silk solid tie would. Anyway I wanted to also promote both Sam Hober and Paul Winston for their excellent quality, value and service.

Just received two grenadines from Sam Hober yesterday: midnight blue and slate blue. They are absolutely fantastic. Can't say enough about David's customer service, either. Just a great experience all around.

Lightbringer, You have a way with words: "exemplify grenadine-ness" sounds very good. Solid grenadines are classics and I am not sure about large dots on grenadines but pin dots are elegant. And stripes also are elegant if you use a grenadine weave for the stripes and not satin etc.. We have dozens more new grenadines that are on their way to us - mostly grenadine garza finas.

What is the quality of those chip ties like? And are they the small or larger weave?

Forest green will probably be next!

I don't really like brown much but someone on WAYWRN recently posted a nice look with tan suede shoes and a rust coloured possibly grenadine tie that looked great.

I purchased 2 grenadines from Paul Winston too. He's a very nice man. Very professional and courteous. I purchased the gray and navy. Unfortunately, I just purchased them so I havent seen or touched the tie but from what everyone has said I know I will be happy. I also purchased a burgundy grenadine from Hugh Parsons (??) off of ebay for $10. It is quite beautiful. One day I'll add Sam Hober's and Kent Wang's to my collection. I dont know if I can pull of forest green but I am def. in the market for some polka dots. CHeers

Greens are unnecessary. But chocolate brown is a must.

My grenadine collection includes:
2 Black (one in rough shape)
Midnight Blue
Navy
Light Navy
Light Blue
Mid Grey
Chocolate Brown
Burgundy
Red
Gold

All garza grossa

I also have a navy garza fina and a navy faux grenadine.

I had a second red grenadine that went missing. Maybe one day it will turn up.

What I have covers everything, though I also have a number of knit ties and other textured solids.

Dark green goes with everything. It's one of my favourite ties. I can wear it with Navy, Gray, Black or Brown suits.
