Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon Mens Wristwatch Model: 5002P Retail Price: $1,750,000.00!

Or for just $250,000.00 less, at 1.5 million, you can have the same watch in 18K yellow gold.

What is it about this watch (in terms of complications, I assume...) that makes it worth four million clams?

A major complication indeed, but an easy one to manufacture.

The Patek Henry Graves sold for $11 million at auction a few years back. I think it may still be the record paid for a watch.

I imagine the target demographic have already done all of that thrice over, not to mention own a fifth of Russia.

Seriously, I have some o.k. watches, but spending hundreds of thousands is just silly IMO. I understand that they are mechanical marvels, etc. But they are more complicated than a fine car? Please. I don't care if it took an artisan 3 months to put together (which it didn't). Assuming he works 9 to 5, you're paying about $1,000 an hour of labor. So don't give me the intense labor argument either. At the end of the day, a watch is basically the only jewelry men can own. And so they go gaga like girls in Tiffanys over sparkly things.

But, seriously, yes, grand complications are interesting little mechanical do-dads. But to buy one IMHO you have to be a little sick.

Give me a break everybody who can be is in the watch market now. Have you seen the offerings? Go to one of those expensive watch stores and look at all these marvelous creations. I don't know that complications are the total story. Look at the shear quantity of all these far out designs.

Let me step back for a moment and contemplate the actual cost necessary for telling time.
