In between shoe sizes, better to err towards the smaller size?

I tried on a pair of leather boots I like today. The 10.5s, my normal size, felt comfortable, but were very roomy. I think if they stretched any more, they would be too loose. The 10s fit snug in the width, but still had plenty of toe room. I'm not sure if I should go with the 10.5 and add an insole later if I need too or get the size 10 and hope they get more comfortable once broken in.

Leather should stretch out. But the safest bet is to just try another style. I bought a pair of shoes which JUST FIT hoping they would stretch out. To this day they haven't

. They fit, just a tiny bit snug and I have to wear them with thin socks. Best thing is just buy shoes that fit. Tiny bit of a gamble when hoping they will stretch out.

The whole stretching out thing is bullshit, don't do it. I've learned that the hard way.

i think it depends on the brand/leather. the 10 doesn't sound crazy tight on you--i think it's the right call.

If you size up, insole + thicker socks should do the trick. I too have had a bad experience with sizing down. Just don't do it.

+100 get the larger size. If you insist on squeezing into tight shoes you'll develop corns and blisters. I had to learn the hard way by wearing normal width shoes when I should have been wearing wide ones.

def err towards the larger size and get an insole to fill out any extra room

shoes might stretch in width a cunthair but they wont change in length so if it's a tad too small in length you're screwed

i think the op should define "snug"--it's not like he's sizing down three on jeans or something. in his words, the 10.5 were "very roomy."

shoes should be snug but not tight--especially if you're doing anything besides walking the dog in you boots--i think the support would help.

By ¨snug¨ I mean I could fit my feet in them, but snug enough that I wasn´t quite comfortable in them.

It's always easier to fill room than it is to make it.
