I know a plain sleeve can be converted into working buttonholes, but can imitation buttonholes be converted into working? How will this alteration look?

Yes, and it won't look any different.

Usually $6-10 per button hole, depending on tailor.

I was quoted $90 for 8 buttons from my (new) tailor. He took in my jacket, shortened jacket sleeves and hemmed trousers for $90 as well. I think he is expensive, but he does a great job.

Sometimes the lining has to be resewn to allow the sleeves to actually function and be rolled etc.

Again, depends on the tailor and the work being done. Many on this forum state the average is about $10-15 per buttonhole. For me, my tailor charges $8.

There's a thread or two about that. Actually, there are three or four right at the bottom of this page.

So what can you actually do with the working buttonholes, roll the jacket sleeve? Just leave them open? How does that work / look? Very curious because I'm all proud & happy about getting a new suit that has . . . working buttonholes. Thanks.

You leave them open so people know you're a playa.
