    WASHINGTON (AFP) - (AFP) - La France est le pays dont l'action est la mieux perçue dans le monde, alors que le rôle jouÃ[​IMG] par les Etats-Unis sur la scène internationale est au contraire jugÃ[​IMG][​IMG]gativement par une majoritÃ[​IMG] de l'opinion mondiale, selon un sondage conduit dans 23 pays publiÃ[​IMG] jeudi.

    "Le pays bÃ[​IMG][​IMG]ficiant de la meilleure apprÃ[​IMG]ciation est la France, perçue comme exerçant une influence positive dans 21 pays - avec une majoritÃ[​IMG] de 58% en moyenne, contre 20% d'opinions nÃ[​IMG]gatives", relève le centre de recherches PIPA (Program on international policy attitudes) de l'UniversitÃ[​IMG] du Maryland.

    Il n'y a qu'aux Etats-Unis qu'une majoritÃ[​IMG] de l'opinion (52% contre 37%) a une perception nÃ[​IMG]gative de l'action de la France.

    Plus globalement, une majoritÃ[​IMG] de l'opinion mondiale (58% au total, 53% en excluant les pays europÃ[​IMG]ens) souhaite voir l'Europe jouer un plus grand rôle que les Etats-Unis dans les affaires du monde. Les Mexicains (66%) et les Canadiens (63%) sont les plus demandeurs dans ce domaine. Seuls les Philippins (54%) et les AmÃ[​IMG]ricains (55%) y sont majoritairement opposÃ[​IMG]s.

    Par ailleurs les Etats-Unis sont le pays le plus impopulaire, devant la Russie, avec des opinions majoritairement dÃ[​IMG]favorables dans respectivement 15 et 14 pays.

    "Notre enquête montre que la rÃ[​IMG]putation de l'Europe s'est amÃ[​IMG]liorÃ[​IMG]e et celle de l'AmÃ[​IMG]rique a dÃ[​IMG]clinÃ[​IMG] sous l'administration Bush", a commentÃ[​IMG] le prÃ[​IMG]sident de GlobeScan, Doug Miller.

    "Certains ont fait valoir que la puissance militaire amÃ[​IMG]ricaine mÃ[​IMG]rite gratitude pour avoir rendu possible l'ordre Ã[​IMG]conomique mondial, mais avec le souvenir de la guerre froide qui s'efface, ce point de vue semble aussi s'effacer", estime pour sa part Steven Kull, le directeur du centre Pipa.

    Seuls six pays ont une apprÃ[​IMG]ciation positive de l'action des Etats-Unis. En moyenne, 47% de l'opinion mondiale (contre 38%) est critique du rôle des Etats-Unis.

    Les Argentins (65%), les Allemands (64%), les Russes, les Turcs (62%), les Canadiens (60%) et les Mexicains (57%), et dans une moindre mesure les Français (54%) ont l'opinion la plus nÃ[​IMG]gative des Etats-Unis, alors que leur action est au contraire particulièrement apprÃ[​IMG]ciÃ[​IMG]e aux Philippines (88%), en Afrique du Sud (56%), en Inde (54%), en Pologne (52%) et en CorÃ[​IMG]e du Sud (52%).

    Les plus grands soutiens de la France se trouvent en Allemagne (77% d'opinions favorables), en Italie (73%), en Chine (72%), en CorÃ[​IMG]e du Sud (72%), en Afrique du Sud et au Liban (69%).

    La perception de la Russie est particulièrement nÃ[​IMG]gative, seuls cinq pays ayant une opinion positive de son action. Les Allemands et les Français (57%) sont les plus hostiles à l'influence russe, suivis par les BrÃ[​IMG]siliens (52%), et les Polonais (51%). Les plus favorables à la Russie sont les Chinois (64%) et les Indiens (67%).

    Enfin 14 pays ont une perception positive de la Chine. L'hostilitÃ[​IMG] la plus forte à ce pays se rencontre en Allemagne (47%), aux Etats-Unis (46%) et en Pologne (33%), et n'est majoritaire nulle part.

    Le sondage a Ã[​IMG][​IMG] coordonnÃ[​IMG] par l'institut Globescan et menÃ[​IMG] principalement en dÃ[​IMG]cembre dernier auprès de 23.518 personnes au total par des instituts locaux.

    first of all, i think those statistics are ridiculous. keep in mind that they were provided by an american university. according to them, only 57% of mexicans have a negative opinion of US foreign policy. i promise you and swear on the bible that the number is closer to 99%.

    to answer your original question, i think that pretty much everyone outside of europe and the heartland of america loves the french.

    Poor personal hygeine and cruelty to animals are hardly endearing qualities, but nevertheless I like the French, and live next door to a French student who has a world class arse.

    I never understood that assumption that French have poor hygiene.
    All in all, I like them.
