I got mine from Benetton, and it's pretty darn slim. I wear size 38 and had to actually get a size 40 in order to wear it over a suit jacket. I thought the topcoat were one size larger already to adjust for the jacket underneath already. If it were any slimmer, I would say it was for a lady. I paid 179 euros, which equates to about 250 USD. The quality is pretty decent.

+1 I got mine last year and had to do the same thing regarding size but it's a great fit and I love the grey wool pin stripe.

Banana Republic 3/4 length Topcoat.

Its on sale as of last Thursday - down to $157.00 USD.

I know many on SF do not approve of BR, but I own two of their topcoats,
one in full length (black) and the aforementioned 3/4 (tan). I love both for their slim fit.

Banana Republic Monogram? Monogram seems to be slimmer than normal.

One other thing, can I bring a coat to the tailor to get it altered? Or is it completely unheard of lol?

I have a Benetton coat I bought last year. Pretty slim. I got it on sale for about $99, but it's cotton not wool

Topman - they have some nice stuff that's pretty thin, and the price is right

I looked at that jacket and it was very thin. I think depending on the climate you might be able to work, but in midwestern winters it would definitely not suffice.

Nice coat though, I think it looks real sharp.

I've had better luck with Topman, though it does depend on the product. $40 trousers, while a great price, aren't going to be much better than H&M. The slightly "higher end" stuff is solidly made, it's nothing like mid-level brands like Emporio Armani, ZZegna, or Theory, but the price is much lower. You can get a sharp looking slim fit overcoat for $200-250. In my experience, it's around the same level as Banana Republic, but with less of a name in the US.

What size are you? Operamann has two beautiful Canada double breasted topcoats at a very good price in the B&S forum, sized 42 and 44. Check 'em out. I am considering the 44 myself.
