It appears you underfed folk are much more "sensitive," another effete trait.

I guess us manly fatties have a thicker ass?

yes.

By the way, where did I say I was 'underfed'?

Look on it as a, "if the shoe fits" comment.

Glad you saw my point though.

By the way, as a would be hobby chef, I'm enjoying your sausage. That would stuff me 2.

Now, you do tend to burn less calories when you're a desk jockey or busy executive than you did when you were 21 and had time to cycle 300 miles a week or lift weights six days a week. That's pretty simple. Cutting down your caloric intake to compensate is also pretty simple, but then you have to toss in what it means to be human.

Either way, 33#s off for me now. My initial goal had been 200# target weight, but I think I'm going down to 190. Another wonderful thing about hitting 40 is that unless you really work at it, you lose several pounds of lean body mass per decade. 190, here I come.

Congrats on that part. Yeah, the aging thing is a *****.

I heard somewhere that rye whiskey bonds with the molecules of other food you've consumed and prevents them from being metabolized, and thus promotes weight loss. YMMV, obviously.

I'm assuming the BMI comment is not directed at me, as I didn't say "BMI is worthless", but I do believe that it is not the best indicator. Especially if we're talking about systems under stress. If it needs to be used as a shortcut/proxy in some situations, then that makes sense, but I'd imagine that before one undergoes non-emergency surgery the surgeon would want to know more about the patient's health than just his BMI. When it comes to the rest of us - those who are fit or not fit - there are ways other than BMI (and I'd argue, more accurate ones) to get that information.

From your replies, I'm getting the idea that you're just trying to rationalize your preconceptions. No, surgeons do not generally do body fat tests on patients. Yes, they do other tests that have no relevance to this thread.

My replies have been rather consistent, but however you're going to view them is how you're going to view them. You keep interpreting the data your way, and I'll keep interpreting it in mine, at least until stronger evidence disproves it or at least calls it into question.

Good times.
