If you a 9 in one A.E shoe, are you a 9 in all of them?

i had a chance to try an A.E in a store, and it fits like a glove. If i ever find anything on the forum that like in Allen Edmond, is it fair to say 9 will fit me well, or can the discrepancy be large between models?

thanks

Depend on what "LAST" you try.

LAST is the wooden shape that the shoes were made.

AE has many different lasts.

Each model has its own last, or shape. Much like every Toyota model has a different body.

Some lasts are better for narrower feet, some for wider. I found that while my Weybridges in size 9 fit me very well, the Park Avenues I bought later would probably have been better in 9.5.

Many AE shoes share the same lasts, you can see on their web-site which shoes was made on which last.

Is there a way to know which "last" your shoe was made with? Like, is that labelled somewhere? That isn't just the width, is it?

I bought some 10.5 AE Cliftons on eBay. They fit just a little looser than my 10.5 AE Park Avenues, which are on the snug side. That was a very positive experience so I would definitely do it again.

I guess this would more or less work for most shoe brands? If anyone else had some advice I'd like to hear it.

The last number of the model number inside the shoe on the lining will tell you the last it was made on. All shoes made on the same last will fit the same, plus or minus the manufacturing tolerances allowed.

@ Makoto Chan:

AE Clifton: 8 (108)
AE Park Avenue: 5 (65)

Note there are two #8 lasts, the "old" and the "new". The 108 is the new one, I believe.
