I'm a shoe novice. I am looking for a summer-appropriate loafer/slipper/whatever the nomenclature that I can wear to the office (I'm an attorney) but can also wear casually. Specifically, I am thinking of something that will fit for dinner or walking around when I'm on vacation in Amalfi/Capri in September. I am open to your ideas on this front, but saw this gentleman's shoes and thought them perfect:

I just have no idea what this type of shoe is called, as my searches for driver, loafer, and slipper have been fruitless. Anyway, if you know where I can find something like this or have other non-sneaker semi-casual suggestions as described above, I'd be grateful.

Thank you kindly.

Try "wholecut loafer."

I dunno who makes that pair, but these are similar, but with a stronger sole edge, which lends them some of the heft they're missing.

Personally, I like Alden-ish tassels or Gucci-ish bit loafers more.

Wholecut! Maybe that's the ticket. I had search "one piece" because I have had some scotch this evening. Will look into your suggestions. Totally open at this point, but this is a gap in my collection.

Yep. That pair is probably from an Italian maker, because it has a very tightly-trimmed sole edge (looks like no welt, and thus Blake-stitched or glued construction), and a lower vamp (not always an Italianate feature, but frequently used on Italian loafers). Fitzpatrick is more English in style, thus the higher vamp and Goodyear welt.

And no worries, I had to finish a bottle of vodka tonight.

I like the lower vamp - reads a bit more casual to me, which is my goal. In any case, despite the revised terminology, I'm having zero luck locating something like this. Prada or some other overpriced crap has a nasty looking patent leather version, but that's about it. SIGH. Life is pain.
