Hey folks,

just received a new pair of Shipton & Heneage shoes. I bought them from the bay for a few bucks in the hope that they were made by Crockett and Jones. Can anyone verify that? I know that Sargent is responsible for a big part of Shipton's selection, but I don't think that these are Sargents as the nail pattern in the heel does not match.

I'm not the ultimate specialist and I'm lazy, but the inside writing and the nail pattern on the heel both match the C&Js I'm wearing as I write.

Pretty sure it's C&J. As Tibo says, the inside writing matches, plus "11B" is their code for "Chestnut Burnished Calf".

Regardless, nice shoes!

Indeed. And furthermore the medallion is identical to the one on the Finsbury and Canterbury models.

Well, comparing the nail pattern and typeface of the markings on the sock liner to this post makes for a strong case for C&J.

Reminds me of a question I posed on the HOF: Labels, heels and nail patterns - Secrets to ID the maker thread about the differences in C&J markings. The machine-stamped lettering of these two shoes vs. the hand-written lettering on many, many other examples of C&J. Any rhyme or reason to it?

Just received a mail from Shipton that states the "Winchester" is made by C&J. Seems like the shoe is a mix between C&J's "Finsbury" and "Westfield".

Anyway, thanks for the quick answers.

Crockett and Jones just confirmed for me that this is made on the 236 last. I have to say, I am very impressed with the timeliness and willingness with which crockett and jones gave me this information!

I had a hard time tracking it down and assumed they wouldn't tell me.

The easiest way is just to ask Shipton, James is more than happy to tell who makes what.

I had previously phoned S&H and got a person who did not know the answer.

Are the C&J shoes for S&H made to a lower standard than their own name brand or do they just use the C&J name as a mark up for the same shoes they sell at the higher price?

I'd be surprised if they answered that willingly and quickly...

I've had some S&H shoes by C&J and the construction is on par with my C&J benchgrades.

+1

And James does willingly let you know what shoes are made by whomever some C&J some AS and others italian construction. Maybe if you talk to him you'll find he's a very amenable bloke.
