I need to wear an ID badge with a lanyard in my workplace. What do you guys think should the badge located on the body? I found that having the badge ended too low will make one look short while having it too high looks funny.

Thanks for sharing!

god I hate those things, they completely sabotage any fit one comes up with unless its a polo and pleated Dockers.

Can't you buy the retractable ones you clip on your belt and hide it underneath your blazer?

This. I clip it to my pocket though (length still works out to have SC cover it up). Makes it easier to ditch into your pocket as well. Don't want the clip to scuff up my belt.

From somewhere on teh interwebz:

If you have a job where you have to wear a nametag, nobody gives a **** what your name is.

This is blatantly wrong, anyone who has worked in an environment that was even a little bit secure has had name badges.

great suggestions, except that it's obviously not possible.

why not? Does it really need to be visible when he's at his desk.

well, I guess there is a difference between a nametag and a badge.

The last company I worked for had a hard-and-fast rule about wearing those ridiculous things. I was warned at the get-acquainted session at HR, which regularly emailed memos to the entire building, reminding everyone that they MUST wear their badges. In truth, we didn't need no stinkin' badges, and, after the first week, I quit wearing mine after noticing that, perhaps, 30 percent of my colleagues wore them. After five years at the company, virtually no one wore them--it was a fad that eventually passed as the badge-making machine aged.

Don't know what occupation the OP is in, but unless it's a cop shop or some other truly secure facility, odds are that this, too, shall pass. In the pocket is the best answer, but if that's not possible, there really is no answer at all--it looks equally stupid no matter what you do. That being the case, I'd do the lanyard thing, which means you don't have to clip anything to your clothing, which deserves better, and it is easily and quickly removed.

and what's the point of putting it in your pocket when you are at your desk...only to forget that you have to take it out when you walk away?

where i work, the policy is that all employees must have their badges visible at all times. all guests must have name tags and be escorted by employees at all times. i've seen senior management face the wrath of corporate security for not adhering to the policy. so yeah, in some places it's taken seriously.

And anyone who has ever worked in an environment that was really secure will know how unnecessary they really are. Things like this offer the appearance of security, they are a visual shorthand for security, they are essentially security theater. (BTW, before you ask, yes I do know what I'm talking about, I specialize in the study of security and surveillance...).
