OK, so the square I'm wearing today is a little on the small side relative to the breast pocket of my jacket, and therefore kept disappearing down into the pocket. I had read before the solution of pinning the square, which seems to be somewhat troublesome and perhaps destructive. Instead I tried stuffing a bit of toilet paper into the bottom of my breast pocket and then putting the folded square on top of it. So far it seems to be holding up fabulously. Anyone else tried this method? I'm asking this half out of interest in genuine responses, half out of interest in the clever ridicule it will inspire (I'm looking at you, FC).

TP has been used to great esthetic effect since it was invented. Why should it bring you any ridicule?
Just as with its other prime esthetic use, don't pull it out while undressing while anyone watches.

A piece of cardboard, or even corrugated cardboard would work well too.

If you must - a little attention surely during the day is sufficient?

I tend to use ordinary tissues rather than toilet paper, but I follow this method all the time.

Tissues have the added advantage that someone can blow their nose or wipe their eyes with it should it be necessary, without you having to hand someone something that is blatantly obviously toilet paper.

You could also use a plain cotton handkerchief.

A piece of cardboard, or even corrugated cardboard would work well too.

Surely this could be visibly stiff, possibly even with an obvious edge?

This is an older trick than you think.

Alternatively, CVS cloth tape can also work for this or even a sock.

Most of these are too large I think.

Well, that depends on how small the thing requiring augmentation is.

Did you see how it would look to fluff out the tissue directly and dispense with the square entirely?

Among other things, it could allow for a wider scope of potential gallantry than merely offering a hanky for a woman's tears. Women have other needs from time to time, and you would be prepared, just like a Boy Scout.

In this case, the TP should be monogrammed so she can later locate and thank her knight in shining armor, no?

*Serious mode*

I think I saw a seller on eBay selling a pocket square valet/holder/thingy - a piece of lightweight black plastic that will adjust for the depth of your pocket and grip your handkerchief to stop it from sinking. Seemed like a nice gizmo for the more OCD among us. I usually do my PS in a pouf which has more volume to stay in place than a TV fold might.

Edit - check out Hanky Buddy on eBay for $11.99 including shipping.
