I'd like to talk about the qualify of men's footwear at Target stores.

What happened to them? I've certainly encountered a number of the shoes thrifting, and some deadstock in odd stores here and there.

It's not at all odd to find totally decently styled shoes, look inside, and see "Towncraft," for example.

Why is all of this so needlessly ugly?

Wasn't Thom McAnn for KMart?

Apparently, according to Google, they were also available at the much maligned Wal-Mart.

That is in the pantheon of the most disgusting, shallow statements I have ever heard. I'm sure it wasn't serious, but still, well played.

Once I drove to LA for a wedding, then realized I had not brought my dress shoes with me.

The morning of the wedding I bought some 49.99 oxfords at Sears, they were fine. Cap toe, leather lining, leather sole. Dodgy yes but from 20 feet look like any AE or what have you.

Anyone been to Sears lately?

I was in Target a couple of weeks ago with my wife, and railing to her about this very thing. Why can't Target simply do a Park Avenue knockoff? I don't get it, either. They really are offering some decent things in their clothing section at their price point, but shoes at discount stores are an abomination.
