I do believe we are starting to see the difference between a young talented team and an old talented team.

Cup Finals are on. Wings need one more!!!!

And I will go ballistic if the Flyers are going to sign Emery. This better be a joke.[IMG]

I enjoyed the Pens' "grab someone and fall down" gameplan for the last 12 seconds there.

    Wings in game 7.

Not that the officiating is ever that great in the playoffs, much less the finals, but this year seems to be exceptionally inconsistent. That goes for both teams.

^And just about every series. This has been one of the most entertaining playoffs in recent memory, but it's been marred by officiating ranging from questionable to horrendous. Two of the three goals last night should not have counted; Cooke interfered with Lidstrom on PIT's 2nd goal and Hudler held someone's stick on Draper's goal (may have been Gill's stick). Pens got away with a half dozen sure-fire calls in the first two periods. Adams got hit from behind at one point, could easily have been a major, no call. Really, really bad all around. Of course, it's a lot better than the games when they HAVE made calls, and made them completely erroneously.

its a bit of a bigger gripe I have about the NHL in general, where they full on bless the fact that playoff hockey is a totally different sport than regular season hockey, which I think completely diminishes the fact that there is a regular season. Its like the NFL saying you cant pass during the regular season, just during the playoffs. And obviously that extends to the officiating. Inconsistencies aside, why is it ok to have two totally different sets of rules for regular season vs. playoffs? If you want people to be more than just fair weather fans, you need to have a consistent presentation so people dont just tune into the playoffs.

I think, at this point, that Bettman would be pretty okay if people in the states just watched the playoffs... because let's face it, right now they're not watching anything.

Really the differences between regular season hockey and playoff hockey are that everyone tries harder and hits more. The refereeing isn't supposed to be any different. In practice, though, it's just been really bad this year. Refereeing in the NHL is a bit of a nuanced thing to understand, because it's not just "you do bad thing, you get penalty" it's also game management, which for example allows for a couple of calls to be made early to set a particular tone that would not be made in the third period just to keep the game from blowing up. That being said there are always certain things that must be called and certain things that should never be called.

I will go on record and pick Pitt for game 7 and the cup (and Malkin for the Conne Smythe). They seem to want it more than the wings. My 6 yr old son is rooting for wings though.

Hey I picked pens in 6 and I live in Detroit. Detroit is so good, but they are also very very beatable. They are their own worst enemy, and for whatever reason, their style of offense, and Pittsburgh style of defense (save for game 5) seems to have problems. as much as it PAINS me to say this, if it wasn't for Osgood, I think this series was over a long time ago. I don't really feel like Detroit outplayed Pittsburgh in the first 2 games despite the score.
