I have an acquaintance who's organising some social events for professional singles.

A bunch of unconnected people will meet up for dinner at a restaurant, talk and exchange details if they're interested in meeting up again. She's asked if I have any ideas for making the event doesn't end up with a number of shy people nursing their drink in the corner, too nervous to mix successfully.

She suggested having a quiz competition as an ice-breaker but I have my doubts about that working.

    So, any ideas?

Oh lord... If you actually need ice-breakers for a singles event, don't even bother. Everyone there is looking to hook-up or get a date out of it. If they can't make it work on their own.....

edit: and planned activities are really ghey :p

Icebreakers are the worst thing ever. Please do not use an icebreaker.

Talking to strangers is easy, especially when they are all there for the same reason and not likely to be bitchy.

If all else fails, a pick up line I like to use is "What color is your shit?"

If in doubt, the best icebreakers are tequila and Jagermeister

+1. As my best friend always says, "if things are awkward, just drink some more."

    Oral sex quiz?

Seriously, if these people are professional, they should be used to networking. Tell them to give their business card and introduce themselves to the first person they see that they want to sleep with.

    Introductions, good. Icebreakers, bad.

These people aren't in kindergarten anymore.

Wear a pocket square. Women will often use it as an icebreaker to say "nice handkerchief", etc.

Yes, and once you tell the lady that it's a Wang, why would you still need an icebreaker?

I know. Pretend it is 1974. Have all the professional men bring a resume. It goes in a big bowl and the professional women draw a resume out. They have to sleep with who they picked.
