After seeing this thread: http://www.styleforum.net/t/339094/...hrough-of-my-bespoke-shirt-purchase-in-napoli - but can someone help me out?

To start, I plan on just getting a simple shirt from banana rep/gap/uniqlo/insertcheapbrandhere, use that for a pattern, buy some cheap fabric and sew it myself. The wife has a sewing machine which used to belong to her mother, and I know how to use it (to some degree).

I however have no bespoke shirt. Way too expensive for me but the appeal is of course there.

I'd need help from those who have bespoke shirts, some pictures of the garment, which parts are hand stitched and which parts are not. How it's cut (is the collar on a bias? how do they achieve such a nice collar roll?) and sewn; lock stitch, straight stitch? What kind of stiffeners are used for the collars and cuffs, etc.

Hope someone can help me and not troll on me. If this is considered a trolling thread, just lock it.

Thanks!!

If you're doing this because it's too expensive to buy a shirt, I suspect that you would be better off finding a part-time job to raise money for your wardrobe. The time you spend learning how to sew and attempting to produce a well-fitting shirt will probably be greater than the time it would take to earn the money to buy a well-fiting custom shirt.

Perhaps you want to do this because you have a genuine enthusiasm to learn how to sew? Cheers to you. I think that you should probably start by buying (or downloading for free) a shirt pattern, and then attempt to make a machine-sewn shirt that fits and looks good. You shouldn't be fretting over the perfect collar roll just yet. I'm curious to see what resources might be provided in this thread.

I've actually made my own shirts and pants before. Ordered a pattern online but the fit sucked. I've since gotten a shirt from Uniqlo to copy its fit and it turned out well.
