I am building a tiki bar and would like to acquire a few pufferfish lamps, like this:

I found one on eBay for $100 but this is out of my budget. Would it be possible to acquire one or two for only $50 each shipped to the US? Perhaps one of you gents in Japan or other Pacific locales can help me with this. Lamps made of the poisonous fugu species would be preferred.

Seems like something that would be both frustrating and painful to clean.

I'm a huge fan of poly-pop style, and I'd recommend continuing to check ebay. There are occasionally some very reasonably priced Pufferfish lamps on there, though, as has been mentioned, they're most likely not going to be a specific type.

Also, try the method that many of the great tiki bars use: buy them from tiki bars that go belly up. Most tikibars haven't survived the years, and more go under every year (sadly). Many are even iconic ones with incredible lamps, glass floats, and tikis that have serious history. Places like Chin Tiki in Detroit, for example have maintained 99% of their decor and atmosphere decades after closing. Another example would be the Kahiki of Columbus, OH. Many of its decorative elements were either put in storage (such as the 40' stone Moai fireplace and the large tiki fountain from the entry way) while others show up on eBay or in the local tribute restaurant, Tropical Bistro (staffed, owned, and operated mostly by former Kahiki employees). With the recent closing of Kahiki's outlet store, there's a possibility of some of it's decorative elements ending up for sale (again).

I might buy this, though it's standing and not hanging.

I was perusing my usual tiki forums when I came across an inquiry similar to yours. A more seasoned poster mentioned that they sell several sizes of pufferfish lamps: http://www.swankpad.org/puffer/ Can't give any firsthand knowledge of the seller, except to say that I tend to see them posting on a lot of midcentury modern forums and tikiboards.
