I want to place an order online. I want a brand that is well made and that looks good. I am wanting to spend up to $500 USD. I own the Alden shoes I'm interested in. I don't like AE very much. What other brands fit the bill?

Check with Tom at LeatherSoul. They have recently introduced Trickers to their lineup. $495 for shoes; boots for $550.

OR depending on his size he might even score G&G for slightly more.

There are a lot of choices at this budget - C&J, Trickers, Grenson. It really depends on the type of shoes you want.

Buy whatever you like.
I think that you are living in America? I would choose Alden. But also Trickers, C&J, AS and RM Williams if you like boots.
If you don´t mind paying customs you shall have a look at Carmina. Fabolus shoes from Spain!

Best,
/G

As an ex-Alden guy, I would recommend you look into C&Js. Now I don't buy Aldens anymore. Actually I don't buy C&Js anymore either. Moved onto other brands (EG & JL), but that's another story.

You can get their "handgrade" line starting ~$525 depending on the model. The other lines will save you around $100 or more.

See for yourself:

1) Pediwear

2) Bodiley's
http://www.shoesnorthampton.co.uk/ab...ttandjones.htm

There are quite a lot of posts on this. Suggest using the search function. If you are not in a hurry, there will be sales after Christmas, although selection in your desired size might be limited.

Keep in mind that you will pay the ex-VAT price since you are not in the EU.
(Reference: 1 pound = $1.54)

Thanks GBer. How are their widths compared to US width? Is F very close to a US width E?
