I touched a Brioni suit jacket yesterday. It was made of a very light wool. I felt the lapel; moved it back and forth between my thumb and forefinger. it seemed like there was crepe paper in it, it felt almost insubstantial; delicate.

Is that what a canvassed lapel would feel like? Or are the lapels on BRioni RTW fused? I want to know what how the two feel different.

The fabric is probably what is called "crepe wool."  I have a Prada suit that I would describe as feeling the same.  In terms of construction, the fabric is not "stuck" or "fused" to the canvas interior pieces.  It is sewn. Therefore, the fabric can move back and forth when you touch it, as you have described.

that cripe feeling is due to stitching on the lapels. Inside the lapel, canvas is 'tightly' stitched on to bottom layer of shell fabric. Thus, you would not be able to separate canvas from the fabric like you would do on the chest area.
