I think I'm sick

I've been coughing relentlessly for the past week, I just woke up from a nap and my saliva is very gross, sticky and tastes peculiar. I'm feeling quite nauseous and have had a headache all day.

I went to the doctors yesterday and they told me I probably had a viral infection and to come back for antibiotics if my mucus is yellow. I feel like absolute ****, dehydrated, tired, not hungry or thirsty, haven't felt like this in ages.

Anyone ever had anything similiar? I think I need a spit bucket because I refuse to swallow this filthy saliva that keeps coming up. Agh.

Maybe its nothing and I'm overreacting.

I had something similar, go in your bathroom and stuff a towel under the door, turn the shower as hot as you can and just sit in the steam for awhile, it will help with the mucus.

Do you by any chance get loss of breath? Does it feel like your lungs shut close and you have to take deep breaths to open them?

I don't, but one of my friends has that exact feeling and more coughing than I do. I remember my mum doing something similiar where she put a towel over her head and put her head on top of a pot of boiling water. I don't seem to have mucus, though my nose seems to hurt for some reason (the passages).

Well, I'm not sure what you have, but a good chance your friend may have bronchitis.
I would still try the sauna in the bathroom idea for the mucus, your friend too.

Could be viral or bacterial, but would need more info to narrow it down. Blood cultures will confirm all of that. I hope your docs offered to do blood tests and a sputum culture. In any case if you start to develop a fever, head to the doctor for some antibiotics. Otherwise if it happens to be a run of the mill cold/flu you can manage it symptomatically with some over the counter stuff (there are a billion products out there for coughing/sneezing and what not.) Keep your intake of fluids up!
