Has anyone tried Everett & Jones bbq or any of their locations? Apparently they made some list on bon apetit but I've never seen them really. There were only a couple of bbq spots worth going to in east bay, and this wasn't one I heard of.
I'm a big fan of Everett & Jones. My favorite location is the one on San Pablo (on the corner next to University) in Berkeley. It's a dumpy old joint that is easy to miss with a big brick fireplace so the place smells of 40+ (50+??) years of smoke and BBQ sauce. The menu is limited to chicken, hot links, beef brisket or beef ribs and a choice of hot, medium or mild sauce. Its served with a scoop of potato salad and two slices of whole wheat bread on a paper plate. (it used to be two sliced of white Wonder bread). No booze, just sodas. Sometimes they have small pies.
You can buy their sauce at most area grocery stores, but TBH it just isn't the same without that wonderful smoky meat coming out of the BBQ after hours over the wood burning fire. They have a larger, newer location over in Jack London square which has live music on weekends but I've never been there.
My mouth begins to water when I am within a couple of blocks of the place.
