I enjoy that Copeland uses ridiculousness to make San Francisco residents look even more ridiculous than he. If there is anything typical to a San Franciscan it is a lack of self examination, and he is bringing that to the fore.

I was lucky enough to get invited on a cruise with free food and drink that took us out to watch the America's Cup races. And while I was stunned by how dirty the locals were on my last trip to SF, I was somewhat surprised to find people cleaner and better dressed this time.

It turned out that they were all from New Zealand and had come to watch their team beat ours.

Went for a run by the ballpark and on the Embarcadero last night, and my boys rode their bikes alongside. On our way back, we came across a man yelling all sorts of obscenity and racial slurs across the street at two black men who were leaning against a truck, looking at him like he was nuts. I'm pretty sure it's the first time my boys have heard the "n-word" in their lives. I took exception with him as I ran by, prompting my younger son to ask why I yelled at the guy and why he was yelling at the other guys. The older boy suggested that he must be drunk and I said he was probably drunk and crazy.

I haven't noticed that which is probably why this stood out for me. Of course, I don't spend a lot of time in areas where one is likely to encounter such behavior. e.g., now that I work on the peninsula, I'm rarely on transit.

Judging by the impact Niners games have on my commute back up the peninsula, perhaps I should put this in the "I think I hate the South Bay" thread. In any case, their exodus to Santa Clara can't come soon enough.
