If you're going to go Swiss, ernest, you should go all the way and get a Vacheron Constantin or a Patek Philippe. That's one month of dole benefits right there.

I like the Rolex in the oyster case. I know the movement isn't rated very highly by those in the know, but it's damn durable. I bought one in Zurich (c. 1991 I think) -- when the dollar was high(er); and I avoided duties and taxes and whatnot. But still had I to do it over again, I might actually by the Tudor -- I didn't know about them before (though I'd seen them), but you get the casing and durability of the Rolex with out the name. That's what I don't like about the Rolex. I don't want the name on the face plate. I also stupidly bought one with the date -- so it has the large bubble on the crystal. And it's stainless & white gold. For some stupid reason I thought it would be a good every day watch, but I'd rather have something less high-profile. I like the Explorer but would probably get one without Rolex on the face -- and at that point might as well get a Tudor.

My wife bought a Rolex in the 80's I don't know the model (never seen it sold in the US) but it's so simple, looks like a timex. It has a small gold round case with black strap. I guess you could argue that there's even more snobbery in that move than in something obvious.

But I get nervous (in a sense) having things that are easily noticed as expensive like a nice watch or car.

    My thoughts anyway.

[responding to the title of the thread...]

I PLAN to buy a Rolex too, and a Ferrari, and a third house in Tuscany, and a yacht.

    I have many, many plans.

What kind of cars do you own/drive?
    Porsche
Car who don't need gas, tires, oil, park place or driver = subway
Isn't that a contradiction in terms? Jon.

Thanks for the tip but =

    - I already have a Patek
    - Vacheron is much more exepensive than Rolex
    - I want a sport watch (no need to tell me about the oversea's)
