I need sneakers

I only own boots (well, and a pair of New Balances, but they're ugly and only for running). This is becoming somewhat impractical, and I need a pair of sneakers. Unfortunately, I hate most sneakers. I kind of sort of like Chucks, but $35 for a pair is just more than they're worth, and the complete lack of any support bothers me. I'm not sure how to size them with insoles, either (should you still go a half size down if you're going to use insoles? should the insoles be sized to your normal size? what kind should you even buy, and how much are they?). That, and, as everyone knows, nothing is any good if other people like it. I also thought about Blackspots. I prefer Chuck his to lows, but the design is a bit better, the construction is ostensibly far superior, and they're not made with slave labor, which is kind of a plus. The significant price premium isn't, though, and neither is having anything to do with Adbusters and its bullshit. Still, I'm wondering if they're worth it. On a related note, this picture is just ******* hilarious on so many levels. Part of my problem with sneakers is that they're all logoed to hell and I can't stand logos on anything I wear. I need help. Budget ceiling's a hundred, so no three trillion dollar Common Projects, either.

I vote Vans Authentics/Eras; you'll probably get mixed opinions on this, but imo they hold up better and are more comfortable than Chucks. They're nearly as universal in their appeal, too - the 14-year-old skaters cheap idolizes rock them, but they have high fashion cachet thanks to the Marc Jacobs thing.

I like the Blackspot... but I've never seen the construction up close. I wish they came in more colours than just black. Charcoal, natural, tan, olive or dark brown would be swell. The ad is ****. I'm a lo guy... couldn't/wouldn't wear his.

Chucks et al are horrible for support, and I can't walk in them for more than several hours. They're ok for short trips though where I'm not walking much. Never thought about the insole idea, but my feet might be too fat to fit them.

Vans Chukkas or Half Cabs, that's what all the hipsters are wearing.

Fwiw my wife has worn Converse (iirc) a lot at work and has found that even with hip problems, the addition of an insole works wonders on their crappy level of shock absorption and support.

I bought these Borns with too little research, at a point when I also decided I needed a pair of sneakers. I don't really like the blunt toe, but they are very comfortable, with a lot of support, similar style to chucks, and, though I don't really know about it, are seemingly well constucted.

I am pretty sure they are available cheaper and in a few more colors from other sellers as well.

I wear insoles in all my shoes, not just my Chucks. I can't imagine going without them, now. Insoles in Chucks work the same way as insoles in any other pair of shoes. Buy your shoe size, and if you need to, whip out the scissors and trim the insoles to make them fit.

Sauce, what insoles do you use? Drugstore Dr. Scholl's? Or maybe it's something really cool that I don't even know about.

I use athletic insoles I get from a running shop near here--same stuff I put in my running shoes. I have really high arches, so I don't think I've ever come across a pair of shoes that provided halfway decent support without needing some extra padding.

The victims of under and over pronation are many.

adbusters has some good articles and stuff, even if its target audience is primarily 17 year old kids who've read a book by chomsky and now think they're revolutionaries. I If your looking for sweatshop free then my onetruesaxon moccassins were made in portugal so it might be worth cheacking them out: http://www.goodnorth.com/

I use Scholl gel arch supports in my sneakers. I recommend them if you have flatish feet

I can't seem to find the post, but I remember a post on here or on sufu saying what horrible customer service adbusters provided and how the blackspot shoe was the most uncomfortable shoe they ever had...

Wait, I think it was actually on an adbuster's forum...

Does anyone else remember this?
