I need helps on this pair of Alden

Last night when I was trying to polish this almost brand new pair of Alden after only the second wearing, I noticed one shoe in the cap area has a spot (1/2" x 1") looked matt and coarse compared to the rest of the shoe. Despite I had given it a good polish, the spot remained persistent.

I don't know how this happened...could be a gasoline drop? Anyway, I am wondering is this impecfection can be easily fixed by a cobbler by just dying the entire toe cap area? By the way, this pair of Alden is in plain black if it helps.

Any comments and helps are greatly appreciated.

Did you only polish, or do you have rewaxed?

Thanks. I cleaned them with AE leather cleaner/conditioner first and then wax polished them. The matt/coarse spot was more noticeable than before somehow.

Nice shoes. The spot is clearly noticeable, but I have no suggestions for how to get rid of it.

Dying the toe cap would be pretty draconian. Why not break down the polish then repolish the toe?

First, I don't know how to break down the polish, care to elaborate? I am definitely willing to give it a try. Secondly, it looks to me not a bad polish, rather the original finish has been ruined.

This is by no means the only way, but I personally use vodka to remove layers of wax polish.

If I were in your shoes, so to speak, I'd take a soft cloth soaked in vodka and rub it gently on the toe cap. You'll get a clear view of the problem after the wax finish is off, either the smudge will be gone or not. Either way I'd rub in some black cream followed by wax shoe polish.

Most importantly I'd consider getting some professional help on your gas huffing habit. From what I understand it's not terribly good for the old noggin.

these shoes look like EG 202,remind me of chelsea.Very nice,I didn't know gas could mess up your shoes,should watch out!

Wow - that must be some favorable camera angle. Must be the same angle they use to photograph 500 SF apartments in NYC. No Alden I know would be confused with and EG.
