Please help! I don't know much about this stuff.

I only have a couple weeks. Something slim. Can spend up to $1000. The "Hickey" suits look good to me, though I don't know about the quality. I was also thinking about the "Fitzgerald" from Brooks Bros. They're having a 2 for $999 sale right now.

Any other ideas? Also, where's a good place to get a suit between San Jose and San Francisco, CA?

Thanks for your help, guys.

A suite, eh? Sounds like you should be asking the Hilton, not around here. In all seriousness, your best bet to get a suit that is slim-fitting is to look at Ralph Lauren Black Label, Paul Smith, Dior Homme, Thom Browne, or even John Varvatos (that's what I have), depending on your budget. The Brooks Brothers "Fitzgerald" cut is very classic, and it is slim-fitting without being overly tight, so that's a good way to go if you want a suit you can wear for a while and at any occasion. I would assume that SF would be the best place in CA to buy clothes, although LA would probably be great too. I've done my fair share of shopping in both places. Again, it depends on what your budget is.

I think you would do best to deal with a sales associate face-to-face.
The 1818 Fitzgerald line at two for $999 is as good a deal as you'll find on short notice.
Go to the BB in downtown SF.
There was a very nice eastern European lady there who helped me with a purchase last year.
(Hopefully she's still there. I've since forgotten her name and lost her business card.)
She'll measure you and walk you through your options.

FWIW, I'm not a fan of the 'cruise ship' RL store in SF.

I also suggest the Brooks Fitzgerald. It's a decent suit with a nice slim fit.

I bought a slim-fitting Monogram suit from them on sale and the quality and fit are quite good. It's certainly not one of the finest suits available, but for everyday use it is quite acceptable.

I have no experience with BB suits, but I would recommend RL Black Label if you can find one on sale.

Thanks guys.

I went to Brooks in SF and bought the last Fitzgerald left in my size. Because of the sale they were having, I was able to get another suit for a $1 more. It's their "Regent" model, which is also a slimmer cut.

They told me the Fitz was based on Brooks designs from the 60s. The Regent seems more like an English-style suit.

If you prefer the Fitzgerald, have them order the second one for you in a different color. That is what I did with no problem in the Boston store.

That doesn't sound too bad. I wonder if they have them in 54 regular...
