I need a new jacket - thin, warm, short(ish). Please HELP.

Blasphemy aside, I wear one of two jackets 95% of my life:

1) A zip-up North Face in black. It's thin, it's durable, and warm enough for most times in the Bay Area. Sadly, it really doesn't mesh well with my slacks/odd-trousers and dress shirts. I do not wear a tie to my very young, business-casual company.

or

2) A thin (much thinner than the North Face) kind of linen-y feeling jacket from Nordstroms, with a motorcycle jacket-style stand up collar. This is better, but it's not that warm and doesn't look that great zipped up.

The other 5% of the time I wear a peacoat by Schott. It's quite bulky and I kind of feel like I'm wearing chainmail when I'm in it. It's very warm and looks good, but it's stiff and hard to move in.


What I need:

A thin, warm, STYLISH jacket that would match my business casual look without looking far too sporty like the North Face, and keeping me warm (unlike jacket #2). I was thinking something like a wool/cashmere blend that is shorter than a peacoat but still buttons up, maybe? Or something similar to jacket #2 but a bit warmer?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I've been racking my brain thinking of something...

Make a research on 'barbour'. They have affordable warm jacket to start. Some are even stylish.

Hmmm, I am seeing some very long jackets when I search for Barbour. Do they make jackets that are just below pant-button level?

Also, what about a Baracuta? Is there a place to get those in the states?

About the Baracuta: is the "skinhead" connection that I am reading about directly related to actual skinheads? Or is that a nick name for something else? Or...

I suggest Burberry. Zegna makes some nice jackets as well. Belstaff, perhaps too sporty but you might take a look.

Try the Barbour Bedale.

Second the barbour bedale, its originally designed for horse riding so its relatively short in the body, waterproof, fairly warm and you can get a zip in liner to make it warmer if you need. Also, I think, the waxed material smells pretty good, kind of comforting. It is quite 'country' thought, their quilted jackets are pretty good and might work better in a city

+1 on Barbour.... and the contemporary line is cut slimmer too. Also +1 on Baracutas, in navy blue- they are very versatile.

I would stick with the financial district uniform - shirts, North Face vest/jacket, slacks. Or go for a blazer.

It's so sad when I see young men dressed in this "uniform" down there...do they even care?
