A new Fiat 500 automatic was almost 8k more expensive than the Yaris I selected. I dont think people understand the economics of car ownership in NYC. If you need a car to reverse commute and require street parking, the car will look and perform like junk after 8-10 years. Insurance is ridiculously expensive in the five boroughs. My bridge tolls average around $180/month. Given the above factors, I refuse to invest in anything more than a means of transportation which is safe and reliable.

For the posters who refuse to drive in NYC, I wish I could find a job that pays as well as my current position that doesn't require a move to NJ or Westchester.

What the ****? Are you crossing 6 different bridges, 3 times a day?

Verrazano Narrows Bridge $13 per day $8 per with EzPass NY $5.76 for Staten Island Residents I have coworkers that spend up to $20/day who commute from Manhattan. Battery Tunnel is another $13 day, so $21/day in tolls to reverse commute X20 working days per month = $420/month in tolls.

I walk or drive the car or hire a driver to cart me around town. How do you guys even go around (beaches, etc) without a car? So weird.
Troll. Not a real New Yorker. The subway is there for its functionality. No one disputes the NYC subway system is disgusting.
