i visited chicago two weeks ago.... i was driving through a suburb outside of it (bolingbrook) and found this place called Andy's... that serves "frozen custard".

I have to admit that I actually ******* drove out to bollingbrook 4 times (out of the whole week I was in Chicago) to eat this Devils Made concoction. in fairness i had some meetings near the area, but i was thinking about that ice cream, sorry frozen custard, whenever in the area.

I've had some great ice cream around the North East (Mad Martha's - Martha's Vineyard) and here in NYC, but **** I can't seriously explain how good the frozen custard from Andy's is.

I had a lot (and gained 5lbs from all the Chicago Food) of the different flavors its the simple chocolate that i liked the best.

of all the great chicago food i ate during that week i was there (the pizza, hotdogs, even soul food)... this is my fondest of memories.

is there any good frozen custard places in the NYC area?

Huh, I didn't know Chicago area had Andy's. I've visited Springfield, MO several times and always make a point to stop by for a concrete. Great custard.

in nyc there used to be a place called custard beach - not sure if it's still around. shake shack serves frozen custard based on (supplied by?) a place in missouri (ted dawes?), that is the real deal. concretes, too....

its open for the summer too... i just never noticed that it served frozen custard. i just don't want to be disappointed... because the stuff from andy's was inexpensive midwest prices that tasted that good.

The only frozen custard joint I've encountered in LA was Lickety Split in Manhattan Beach, which is now closed.

ted drewe's is indeed a Missouri specialty, namely St. Louis and Columbia. I can't remember eating any during college, but I am sure I did, inebriated.

Andy's is pretty damn good. One of their locations just opened up a few blocks away from my dorm. It's in Evanston, by the way, which is a lot closer to Chicago than Bolingbrook is (just so you know next time).

just ate the frozen custard at shake shack. although i've had the burgers there a bunch of times before. the plain chocolate was about a 6/10 compared to andy's. it had the smoothness and thickness but lacked in taste. andy's chocolate actually tasted like a thick custardy version of hershey's milk chocolate bars. the plain cheeseburgers at shakeshack were great though. like a super simple tasty houseburger. not bad on the pricing too. side note about shack... i was at the UWS branch and there was a nice Ferrari parked outside. someone tried to parallel park and actually backed right into it in the process. the typical long line that snaked outside shrieked in horror as we saw the guy back right into the ferrari. by the grace of god there was no damage, this ferrari had a robust plastic bumper that just dented right back to normal, no scratches too. and yes the driver was an azn... lol edit: added pics!
