We met last Monday for lunch at the Oyster Bar in NYC. We spent the entire afternoon together. I enjoyed his company a great deal. He's far less eccentric than his online personailty would suggest, though it would not do him justice to say he's not at all eccentric. But while he has a distinct presence, he is a completely normal guy -- which is to say that if any of you met him, you would probably like him.
For the time being, though, I'm proud to say that I have the distinction of being the only forum member to have met Vaclav in person.
As for the various theories that were once rife about Vaclav being Ernest or Lazarillo, or Horace for that matter, I feel vindicated in saying that you were all wrong. Vaclav is simply Vaclav. He says he has never even actually met Horace, and laughed at the absurdity of the suggestion that he was one and the same as Ernest.
So, I raise a toast to my friend Vaclav. It's a shame the forum doesn't have a taste for his sense of humor, but as we both acknowledged, it's only an internet forum.
