I can't imagine living without a decent shredder now. I feel like there is sooo much sensitive information out there, and you can't just throw it out with the trash, and there are always old credit cards, CDs you don't want falling in enemy hands, and so on. So it makes me feel a little less paranoid.

Plus it's pretty therapeutic. I've shredded through like 200 pages of old mail and documents last night, it's nice.

Seriously, one of the best investments ever.

You don't realize how relaxing it can be until you rock out an hour long session or more while watching a good movie with a drink. On the other hand it sounds really depressing after typing it out like that...

What's with all of the black flag avatars lately?

I love my shredder 2. I just had to buy my new one as my old one died...

Any suggestions for a really solid, but compact shredder.

Either an over-the-trash-can model or a very compact standalone?

Thanks!

With the right shredder, yes.

Mine has a separate CD/Credit Card slot

I think Fellowes makes some of the best.

I usually build a such a mound of paper to be shredded that my shredder actually overheats and shuts itself off.

Yeah i has PS-77 or PC-77 or something..

It was usually available on amazon for $95 or something, but now closer to $150 I think (list is 250-300 if i remember correctly)

Definitely enough for home or small/medium size office.

Does this look like it? Seems to be the smallest Fellowes that fits my needs:

Anyone try the "fits on top of the wastebasket" types? Are they worthless?

Thanks!

No, mine is the next big model up http://www.fellowes.com/Fellowes/sit...spx?Id=3217701 I mean it's very similar and I think for home use they would probably be comparable, although who knows... I think the 77 probably eats more and chokes less, and it came handy a few times. However, I did buy my 77 when amazon had them for a little less than a $100, and I probably wouldn't spend $150 on a home shredder now. Edit: I see the difference now - the 77 has a separate slot for credit cards and CDs (that 67 can't do) and can do 50% more paper at a pass than the 67.. Question is if that's worth the extra $50 to you.

Of course - but I've always wondered about the health implications of having shredded CD substrate out in the open.
