Actually, this will kill two birds with one stone as gdl203 hates this Lobb last

Yikes! But I love museum calf... I'm all confused now - do I love them, do I hate them?...

That Lobb last is the most uncomfortable for wider feet and higher arches

I like the artifice of antiqued shoes paired with a rather minimalist outfit.

However, today I wore a pair of high-end antiqued shoes and got bored of them.

i like the look of both and i beleive that i can have place for both antiqued and normal! - but i personally prefer the EG G&G style and the museum calf to the the crazy burlti style of coloring! if you can get leather that has a nice rich gloss color the panita will be a lot richer that anything that has been over colored!

I like a lot of different styles of shoes.

Of course solids are nice, but I also think the painted look is beautiful.

Was a single crestfallen tear cloven by the exquisite chiseled toe?

There, I said it!

I'm coming to that point of view myself. Leaving aside the really ugly things that Lattanzi dreams up, an antiqued finish catches the eye in the showroom. It doesn't wear as well on the road, however. For example, the Dark Oak of EG, an extremely useful color on paper, looks somewhat grey at times in actual use. That's not a good grey like Minnis flannel, but grey like cigarette ashes. Were I to do it again, I'd just get darkest brown and let the dirt and wax give it character over time. Of course, the Lobb Paris stuff is really gorgeous and I might break down and try it just once. Maybe.

It's a little like some Parkerized wines. Flashy to taste, but boring with food and fatiguing to drink over a long meal. What sauce really goes with toasted oak, anyway? I'd also put antiqued oriental carpets and violins in that category.

Matt--saw some Lattanzis in Rome that took it a step further. No dye! The only decoration was the blatant Horween brands (as in the kind burned into the leather) all over, at least two on each shoe. Is that the logical next step for you?
