I can't get into all this painted, colored, antiqued stuff.

There, I said it!

Hmm, so there weren't any Scafora's in my size you say. Maybe the more likely story is that you could not bear to cross the Atlantic with all that antique-y goodness stuffed in your luggage

Especially not the Lobb museum calf.

I have a couple shoes with strong patinas, but I rarely wear them.

I have a bespoke pair that will be up for fitting soon, and I am thinking to change to something more plain. Who knows.

just curious.
to me it adds depth to the leather and thus shoe characteristics

Because I think that leather is beautiful and that age is also beautiful. I don't like leather that looks distorted to me or age that looks faked to me. I love the patina of a well used shoe.

I like antiquing in the EG style - I actually prefer a little patina to a completely uniform color, but I really don't like the Lobb museum calf either, nor the weird Italian mottled look you see on Kiton and Santoni shoes. Looks totally fake - kinda defeats the purpose. So yep, I'm with you.

Hmm, tech issues. Damn inter nets. As I tried to say, you need to get down wit da jiggy, Matt.

Does that include using different color polishes on your shoes? I've been using brown and blue on the tan ankle boots that Seok sent me, and like the effect. I want to start with tan and blue on the chestnut RM Williams Craftsmen, but I think the base color might be too dark to come out as well.

I agree with you but the lobb museum calf just looks like a totally unique finish to me. I only like in darker colors though. In lighter tans/browns it makes the shoe look like a coffee table.

I'm pretty much the same. I like some of the Kitons and Santonis, but would have a hard time wearing the flashier ones. Too much of anything lacks elegance. EG is, for me, about ideal.

So, therefore I have decided to have a small rotation (by SF standards) and get the patina naturally.
