Grados new GS1000 headphones are superb but I prefer the RS-1 model.

Grado also makes some fine cartridges for your turntable. I use the Grado Sonata and I really enjoy it.

I think a little under 200 hours will make them listenable, 800-1,000 will make them perfect. Like I said, definitely a long-ass break-in time but I think it's worth it given the price and quality of these headphones.

What kind of material is This looks like a good buy and I'm in the market for a pair but I don't like the foam material on cheap headphones. It gives me goosebumps kind of like the whole nail on a chalkboard thing. From the picture, it looks a like a rug material. I wouldn't mind that or even plastic foam on studio headphones.

Its the same foam material on cheap plastic headphones. That picture has some uh.. customized (cloth?) earpads. I think you can get upgraded custom pads to fit it from some other people though...

Xbox 360 and Madden 08

I'm glad I expected it to be loud, cause it sounds like a goddamn jet engine.

It's loud as a motherfuck and gets hot as hell too. Since I recently retreated to my parent's house and my dad's a fiend for home theatre equipment, we have a closet full of receivers and such and with the wireless controllers, stowing the Wii and X360 in there is convenient so you dont have to have the volume at +30db and not hear the 360 running.

I'm assuming you bought it recently, so you should at least have the new heatsink design which will be better for heat. A buddy of mine went through FOUR X360s (thank god for M$ warranty) prior to their heatsink re-design.

HA, my buddy just sent in his 3rd. When he gets his reman one back he is gonna sell it for an Elite model.

I have been thinking of dumping my Fujitsu B series laptop (10" touch screen, 256mb ram, 900mhz PIII M, modded to include a 2gb 32bit cf reader/card to use for my swap file, Atheros Super G wireless for extra range, and 7200RPM Hitachi 60gb drive, still gets about 5-6 hours on a charge) for a couple $100 and buying a new ASUS eeePC. I would probably get the 8 or 16gb model, get it with the least amount of ram and just buy a 1gb on sale for $45 to put in there and get a 8gb SD card (for music and video). That way I can have a smaller lighter laptop that is still plenty quick, for school. I thought this B was small for a while but I will admit I am envious of my fiance's Sharp Muramasa 7" laptop. This asus should be a good competitor (and cheap)

So just a quick update on this. It took 2 business days to getDigital to encode all my CDs (220 actually) after they received them, and ship them back to me, along with the DVD-R. All the music is perfectly organized in folders, fully tagged (including random Japanese CD - with their titles in Japanese characters!) with all the artwork embedded. It took me about 15 minutes to transfer the 20 GB of music to my home PC.

I would definitely recommend the service to anyone who does not want to spend the time to encode hundreds of CDs. One point though: if your PC is not brand spanking new, you should request your music to be on DVD+R, not DVD-R (unless you send your iPod or removable HD of course). I had some error messages with some of the DVD-R first (my PC is 2.5 years old) - I emailed getDigital and they overnighted me (at their cost) two other sets of DVDs in other formats to make sure it works out well. The set of DVD+R worked perfectly without any error

Uh, I figure you would know but are you certain you got the new HDMI-equipped model? My new 360 is even quieter than my PS3 as opposed to my RRoD machine, which made more noise than a Dreamcast.

Today I bought something I'm not really proud of. I have a really ugly La-Z-Boy in my spare room for playing games and it kills my back (only 22 and I'm already having pains stemming from football injuries), so I'm going to give it to my dad and I bought this, the Ikea Poang:

So, not only is it mass-market junk but it is a blatant rip-off of an Alvar Aalto piece. However, it is what I can afford, it is good looking and comfortable. I'm sure my guilt will subside in a couple weeks.

He's right. Note that he said "reply" not "post"

I've got Shure e4c's that I got for $180 ($300 from Shures website, but far cheaper if you look). Very, very pleased with them, provides far more detail than I get in any other listening setting that I have access to.
