A pack of eclipse cinnamon mints. They aren't as fresh as the peppermint, but are nice lollies all the same.

I recently bought an electric hair clipper. It's considerably less exciting than the definitive book on Facel Vega.

By the way, in my early childhood in the latter part of the 60s, I had a multi-functional Corgi car model of the Green Hornet's car that I remember looking an awful lot like a Facel Vega. In fact, it was a customized '66 Chrysler Imperial. Still, the Vega is worthy of its own iconic hero; perhaps a French James Bond type.

i bought crybaby and the cook, the thief, his wife and her lover on cheapo dvd. the former to enjoy with the mrs, watched it last night and it's still good fun; the latter for my own enjoyment.

i also got a second hand kurosawa box set a bit ago, eight films all with english subs buried somewhere in the japanese menus. I need to put aside a weekend for a watchathon but i have yet failed to watch any of them.

If the Kurosawa DVD only has Japanese menus and you need to find the English subtitles, first look for characters that say 字幕 or 字まく or じまく. That will be your subtitle menu. The choices under that menu may list "English," in which case you'll have no problem, but if all your choices are in Japanese, English will be 英語.

    Hope this is helpful.

It sounds like your computer doesn't recognize the characters, or at least the DVD player your using doesn't. It might be your system. Windows XP and Mac OSX allow you to change the language of your entire system easily enough. The problem with that is that you'd have a hell of a time changing the system back without being able to read Japanese.

Somehow, you have to get your system, or at least the application, to recognize the Japanese characters without changing the entire system into a different language. Browsers, for example, allow you to change the character encoding under the View menu. Changing to Unicode or JIS allows you to view characters properly without compromising the English characters. Whether it is possible to change the character encoding for your DVD player in preferences I would have no idea, but that's the approach I'd take.

Alternately, you could try downloading a different player, but I don't have any suggestions about which one.

    Good luck.
