I actually prefer a more heavier and thicker pen than the more slimmer versions which always remind me of the '80s for one reason or another.

I also prefer piston fill or whatever variation that is not a cartridge/converter.

Which model are you currently using LK?

Oblique nibs in 'fine', 'medium' and 'broad' are intended for left-handed writers. So, possibly a medium oblique would suit you best.

I'm fully aware that most fountain pen nibs have a point. Some use an iridium point. But your point was, should we say it, too blunt.

I have a '50s Pelikan 400NN but I also have a vintage Sheaffer Balance, Delta Nautilus, Parker 51, OMAS 360. I used to have a Pelikan M800 and a MontBlanc Proust.

I have had a few quality control problems with OMAS. The pen would leak when filled and would skip.

However, I have discovered this to be true with various high-end Italian goods where apparently quality control is somewhat of an issue.

How do you choose to fill the ink? Do I get an inkwell and then squirt some ink in it and dip the tip in for the piston fillers? edit: I emailed the folks at pendemonium asking all sorts of questions. Also, I think I like the M215 much more, given that it is comparable to the M200.

Label King, I wish I could use a fountain pen. They tear into whatever paper, I'm using . . . just can't seem to 'master' them.

Ivan, perhaps it's the quality of paper you're using, not the pen?

Maybe. I've tried many, many fountain pens. As soon as I get going . . . the paper starts to tear or 'scrape.' I think I write too fast. The sample you see, was written in about ten seconds. If, that.

The Pelikan M200 @ $60 with a fine nib

Can you explain the difference between cartridge and piston fillers? Which do you prefer? I'm a total pen n00b.

edit: Looks like here is a guide for filling: http://www.rickconner.net/penoply/filling.html
and here is a good guide for pen models http://faculty.haas.berkeley.edu/rjmorgan/openions/

I like the simple sleek style but doesn't it appear a litte too thick? Or, is that the style you prefer?

nice thread.

how important is permanence when you shop for inks?

i panic when i think of bulletproof inks. the idea that my scribblings will eventually fade is comforting.
