should I even try to help my fiance find jeans, i realize I know nothing about fit on lady jeans... but denim is denim so atleast some of the 'principles' I've learned here would apply right?

I'm trying to shrink down a pair of Levi's 501 STF. I put them in a hot soak for 1.5 hours. The problem is the inseam didn't shrink nearly enough. MAYBE a little more than an inch. I need the inseam to be a least an inch more before they're wearable. Anyone have input on how to shrink them farther? I'm thinking another hot soak, but I figured I'd look for ideas before I took that step.

That's weird. You sure they're STF? Even a warm soak should take at least two inches off a pair of STFs. Most of the shrinkage should be complete with one soak, so you can try again, but unless you did something drastically wrong the first time (and I can't imagine how you could've), I doubt it'd do much.

I considered that, but I'm not thrilled about spending money to hem $30 jeans. Last resort, I suppose.

Yup, positive. The tag is sitting right next to me. I measured the inseam before and it was 34", as tagged. Now it's ~33". This is my first raw denim, but you're right, it's not a process that begs for mistakes. I ran a hot bath, laid the jeans in it for 1.5 hours, dripped dry long enough to get rid of excess moisture (maybe 45 minutes), and put them on. Definitely too big.

The weird thing is that the waist shrunk as expected. It could shrink a little more, as it will stretch later on, but I'm really surprised that the waist was correct when the inseam wasn't.

    Sirs:

I have been wearing a now wonderfully worn in pair of A.P.C. new standards for a year and a half (nearly every single day, somewhat frighteningly). It is time, I think, for another pair of jeans but with a non-tapered leg. I just bought a nice pair of johnston & murphy saddle shoes to wear casually but the tapered leg sits a little funny on 'em. I'd like to get something that is very slim but not tapered. I am a size 32 waist and bought size 29 new standards if that gives a clue...

    Also, raw denim is critical.

Any thoughts? Need I post pictures of current pair?

^ Anything other conditions besides cut? Price range? Just based on that, and the fact that someone is going to say it: Crate Route, or perhaps James if you want even slimmer.

Price range not so much an issue. Would like to spend less than $200 but will spend more if I love something. Doesn't have to be crazy slim--basically, I'd like the slimness of the new standards I have, just without the tapering at the leg. I feel like my desert boots and new saddle shoes will both benefit from having a slightly larger leg opening on them. The tapering looks cool with my adidas sambas and vans but with a more substantial shoe it has the effect of magnifying the shoe to make it look a little too large/disproportional with the jean. Na'm sayin'?

Apparently, New Standards are 16" at the leg opening and 18" at the knee. I think I need something that is 18" at both knee and opening. Anyone? Raw, no washes or prefade crap.

^ Slim Jim two sizes up from your NS size would probably fit the bill.

True, but I would vote PBJ 005 over SJ.

    Edit: Um, by a landslide...
