I am morally opposed to sandals on men unless one is on the beach or showering at the gym. There is no other place for a grown man to wear sandals.

I am not opposed to sandals on women.

Sandals don't frighten me but unsightly feet in them do.

Sandals, like all footwear, suit certain climate and travel conditions. Moses, Muhammad, Jesus, Buddha, to name a few, all wear sandals.

Nothing wrong with sandals. They are only summer footwear here.

Also, who cares? With the anticipated arrival of the AE Strawfut next season, sandals will be a thing of the past anyway.

Sandals on men are stylistically and morally wrong. I don't think it matters how good or bad your feet may be. The important point is that no one wants to see them. Not in public, anyhow.

But wait -- I am a hypocrite. Not only do I own sandals, I am actually wearing them as I type this message. Yes, I have a pair of Birkenstocks that I wear around the house. I don't wear shoes indoors and I don't like to go barefoot. I find that my Birkenstocks are perfect for private indoor wear. So comfortable. And in case you were wondering, no woman has ever objected or mentioned them in a break-up conversation.

This makes me wonder: is good style really a full time imperative? Can we have private spheres of our lives in which these lapses are allowed?

Birks are also my house shoe. They never see daylight.

Like most things, there are good sandals and bad sandals.

I was anti-sandal as well, but my wife purchase some Sperry fisherman style which are actually quite comfortable and do cover more of the feet than others I have seen.

Well...I live on an island... I think you are subject to fines if you don't wear sandals 80% of the time.

A big island?

If we're talking Uk or Australia ,that rule doesn't apply...
