I never understand this "over the top" idea. A whole lot of what goes into a good outfit is over the top, pure decoration. How did you decide to draw the line at pocket square rather than having the breast pocket at all, or any of the outside pockets, or the sleeve buttons?

Based on the original post of this thread it, mp1472 does not like pocket squares and does not know why.
Well that's somewhat true .. see I don't like them because they look ridiculous 98.7823681736% of the time. But almost every pic posted on this site of a suit/sport jacket always has a pocket square. So it seems like everyone is all in on the pocket squares except me. But I really cant stand the look almost every time I see it <shrug>

lol ya I don't know .. I mean I think wearing 1000 dollar shoes and custom 3k + suits and 10, 20 , 30k + watches is perfectly acceptable and reasonable..

Now wear a pocket square this is over the top peacocking !!!!!

How do you feel about "lol"s and exclamation points?

I'm ok with "lol"s, when they are used correctly, except for the over the top capitalized "LOL"s.

The multiple exclamation points are pure ostentatious narcissism though.

Finally, "..."s are always in good taste...

I wonder if anyone else shares this opinion but I can't stand them, won't wear them ...hate them !! I feel Iike its over the top at that point lol.... and I'm not really sure why exactly.
Who's with me !?.....

Against ya.
Chivalry alone is the reason to wear a pocket square. Also, when offered to a person in need, you don't ask for it back later.

Never had anyone tell me that a PS I've worn looks ridiculous or bad. Most of the time they go out of their way to let me know they approve- especially the females.

Would you say that roughly 98.7823681736% of females approve of your pocket squares?

So for you guys when you see someone wearing a suit and no square does this look wrong to you? Like this guy needs to have a pocket square to complete the suit?

...if it's a great square-less fit, then I don't notice the lack of a square. If it's not great, my eye falls on the breast pocket and I feel like something's missing -- it's like a rock song where the bass guitar is too quiet.

Yes, no square looks wrong to me and 98.7823681736% of the time I do think this guy needs to have a PS to complete the suit.

Although TBH, I actually think that you don't have the self confidence to wear one and are so trying to rationalize why you shouldn't wear one. Be real brave and wear one, a plain white TV one, you will be shocked at how many people notice. Some may even compliment you.

Let me assure you self confidence is not an issue with me and I would even say I dress somewhat peacockish ...is that a word?......anyway but like those stupid gucci belts with the big metal gg buckle and the louie loafers with the big metal lv on them ....a pocket square for me makes me feel the same way I do when I see that stuff. I get that I am in the minority here but I would hate to be doing it wrong running around without a square

Not necessarily wrong but rather incomplete. There are exceptions; example: a jacket with no breast pocket.

That would depend on how he wears it.
