It's actually a debit card. Someone made 4 separate transactions in one day, yesterday, and I just found this out today. I don't know how the thief was able to get through the pin numbers.

Anyways, I just called my bank asking for a case number. But, I'd like to share the purchases: $52 at a Grocery Store (sounds like a hungry thief) $13 at Cold Stone Creamery (with a sweet tooth) $45 at Salvation Army (WTF? You have someone's CC and you visit a thrift store?) $222 at Macy's--status pending. Anyone here had this happened?

I had mine stolen at work and they tried to use it at least a dozen times at gas stations. Chase took care of it for me and I had a new card in a few days. Cancel the card and file a claim and you should have no problems.

And you're only liable for a small fixed amount ($100 or so IIRC).

happened to me too. One thing you need to look out for is when you're at restaurants, cross out the Card number except the last 4 digits. some machines don't XXXX the numbers off.

I always pay cash at gas stations but I had empty cash wallet for the last few times....and I think it probably happened at the gas station when they got my info.

I was a bloody idiot for doing so, knowing the risks. I got to stop the habit of getting gas when I have like 2 miles left to go.

Happened to me, and I didn't even use it at any gas station because I knew of the scams that took place at gas stations. It must of been stolen by a regular store.

I use cash now unless it's a really big amount.

Thugs install cams all over the place. And the fact that gas stations are run by Middle Easterners all over the country doesn't give me much comfort either.

I'd love to catch someone stealing my card info. Like they say in pulp fiction, it would be worth them stealing it just so I can catch them.

This is supposedly illegal now. Visa and all the processors were supposed to change it to only be the xxx's and last 4. You would be suprised at the amount of advocacy on the behalf of the consumer Visa, and the others do. Did you know its against Visa policy to have two differnt prices for cash or credit? Or to require a minimum purchase to use a card? Mind you all of their advocacy is to increase their profits, but its still nice.

Gas stations are infamous for this.

Dude those salvation army clothes went to terrorists.

Actually I am kind of suprised that they used these at Point of Sale. IIRC almost all of the credit card theft that doesnt involve the physical card winds up being used online. They would have had to fabricate a physical card, which isnt that easy to do, and use in several national stores, which at least have some level of exposure to anti-fraud methods.

I had this happen to me once, about 10 years ago. someone bought some cell phones from toronto. First and only time its happened to me knock on wood, and I was an early and often credit card user back in the wild early days of them interwebz
