There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

It was fucking terrifying. The guy had a big butcher's knife. This wasn't even in a bad area but I was walking alone to meet up with my friends. The bastard for $90 and my cell phone. Really mad/upset right now.

I'm sorry dude. You need to be more careful. DC seems like a safe area...until it's not. At least, you can now claim to have something in common with Kumar.

Make sure you call your cell phone company and cancel service right away. Also call the people on your contact list and make sure they know your phone was taken and that they should beware suspicious calls in the immediate future.

Damn Conne that sucks. It also explains why you didn't reply to my text message late last night. I just thought you were an asshole.

Or if you want to milk this for some laughs, publicly post your number and we'll all send nasty text messages to the robber. For maximum funny, please let us know the ethnicity of the robber.

Glad you were not hurt. When will you be leaving DC?

In hindsight I probably made a bunch of poor decisions in terms of walking around the city alone late at night while I was in college in DC. Fortunately was never mugged, but had some friends who were. Glad you're ok, dude. edit:

I was in 7-11 one night around 3am and got that feeling that someone was looking at me. Looked up, and a guy asked me if I needed a ride home - said he had a limo outside. I sad no thanks, paid, and ran most of the way back. There was in fact a limo outside - maroon, 80's style (this was back in '02).

A butcher knife? Sounds beyond traumatic. Glad you're alright.

I had a knife pulled on me once. It was 3am (or so) and I was walking back home through a not-so-nice area. At the time I was very fit, into martial arts etc. so I did the right thing....I RAN. The guy didn't give chase so I was fortunate.

It's a scary thing to happen. Glad to hear you are okay. Definitely don't feel angry about losing some cash and a phone - you are okay and that's what's important.

Several long years ago, someone tried to mug me in WDC. The problem was that they were high (on drugs or booze), it was daylight & sunny, I spotted him from a few hundred yards away (eg. I wasn't listening to music or otherwise distracted) and I was armed with triple-action Mace spray (eg. I did not have it attached to some stupid keychain or tucked away in my briefcase - it was in my hand).

The funny thing was that 99% of my fellow classmates felt I was the bad guy. No - they hadn't been there. They only wanted to know the race of the other guy. I became Bernard Goetz.

No regrets. The same attitude also saved me from a mugging in the UK. It's not like it happens everyday but being prepared makes a huge difference. People ask why I chose not to run with iPod or don't talk on my mobile while walking (unless absolutely certain of the area) - it's because in both cases, you give off the impression of being distracted, and for many muggers, that's exactly what they are looking for.

Sorry to hear that you got the wrong end of it. At least you were not injured.

Sorry to hear that, Conne. I hope you are feeling better.

Whereabouts was it? It's hard for me to imagine a street near dupont where this could happen unless it was past 4 am.

Anyway, you did the right thing, $90 and your cell phone is small change compared to taking a risk.
