    What is your dream?

It has nothing to do with plastic, Paris Hilton and Borat I hope?

    Hi guys-

thanks for helping me in this time .. [IMG]

if I told you before its my dream to live in California and do something great just like Brian Wilson or Bob Marley [IMG]. Even if I have to play my bass on the boardwalk for hamburgers I prefer this to just a rich guys career that doesn't leave me with some good vibrations [IMG] .

Well my girls father is a very serious guy and his factory makes equipement for recycling..my girl said since this helps the enviroment its helping people just like music [IMG] I think she must be crazy for me to believe this.

I don't know what whiskey he's drinking.. but I don't want any of that stuff if it makes me such a boring guy..I think I'm starting to feel like that country music song "Take that job and shove it"..

    hey, seriously:

i am beginning to feel sorry for your girlfriend. it seems she has to put up with your "california dreaming" merda del toro for way too long (at least longer than the time you joined this forum). its obvious she doesnt share your dream of playing a bass guitar on venice beach. you see it as your gf's dad forcing you to work in a boring job that will keep you forever down, while i think i am not alone in seeing it as your gf trying to help you out. well, at least for herself- its trying to give you two a more stable future. if you fail to see it in your partner's perspective, i do suggest that you spare her the trouble you might drag her into in the future.

I say, take the recycle job with your love interest's father, and retreat soooo deep into your california fantasy that the real world just melts away and no one can reach you; do not allow the abuses of reality to dampen your good vibrations. What could be more Wilsonian?

    Hey Acidicboy-

I'm starting to think you never had a dream because you have a problem with indigestion [IMG]..

but let me be serious too- it takes courage to follow your dream if you dont want to take it from me you can ask Steve B and Gary.

But there's a twist in the plot when it's discovered too late that the Beach Boys are clandestinely working for an international ring of terrorists headed up by the Kim Jong Il character from Team America.

So even though Wilson Brother wins the surf-off and meets his idols, he gets swept up in the sinister undercurrent of international terrorism when the Beach Boys blackmail him into planting a bomb under Huntington pier set to detonate during a big surf contest.

The only way he can get out of it is to surf big Mavericks (huge, cold, and sharky) on an old, dinged-up, obsolete single-fin from the 70s with a broken nose. Can he do it?

    The suspense is killing me!

You have a good imagination..maybe you could help me with my lyrics [IMG]

First off, I want to congratulate wilsonbro on being the first poster I recall seeing use the [IMG] smiley naturally and in context. Congrats! [IMG]
Second, I want to mention, in case you are not aware of, the example of Ted Hawkins. Hawkins spent years busking on the Venice boardwalk, playing his guitar and singing for donations. Against the odds, he was "discovered" and got a recording contract, resulting in an amazing soul/blues album: [IMG]

The fact that he was old by the time this happened, and that he died not too long afterwards, is neither here nor there.[IMG]

Dude, don't go work for her dad. They are trying to turn you into what they think is good for her. You've got to do what you want and if they can't except it then they're not for you.

Furthermore, you'll be his slave and your co-workers will hate you. He'll come down from the office to yell at you and your co-workers will call you a brown-noser for talking to "the boss".

This is a lot of talk about digestion..now i'm going to get hungry for some noodles [IMG]

I am glad your girl supports your dreams..hey- thats what I thought mine could do. I don't want her to have the same dream just for us to accept each others..is that such a strange thing for a relationship? [IMG]

    Lawyerdad-

thanks for that nice story..I wonder if Ted had someone to accept him for all those years...maybe just the people listening to his music.

    Texas_jack-

I appreciate your advice..her dad already yells a lot [IMG] look forward to more of that..maybe she'll be like her father when she's his age ..I better be careful [IMG]

Why not just try the new job for a few months? If it doesn't work out you can always dump your wife and go to CA. If youre planning on SoCal Ill even buy you an ice cream when you get here.

I would suggest you read King of Torts by John Grisham. The main character there has the exact same dilemna you're facing - perhaps it'll help [IMG]

Also, see My Best Friend's Wedding.

    Hey guys-

I want to give you an update..last night my girls father suggested we drink whiskey and after some glasses we started talking business. This was a mistake because I told him that I thought his work is boring [IMG] and I dont think the industry has a great future [IMG]

After I didn't think he was so angry but my girl told me differently this morning [IMG] so I dont need to tell you i'm in a little trouble with her at the moment [IMG]

now I better not mention California or else..[IMG]

There isn't anything wrong with having dreams or following your own path, but (and this is the crux) if you see this girl as your wife/life partner, then you have the responsibility to provide for her, and your family to come. Don't you? I have thought of changing professions myself although most of the time I was single, but even now, when I'm seeing someone, I know that despite the shortlived hardship of the change, in the future I would still be able to provide financially.

Regarding her father, it's fine to disagree with his view of his profession ie call it boring and doomed to extinction, but can you provide a viable alternative vocation for yourself? Until you do that, you don't really a leg to stand on. Sorry to be such a downer but trying to be 'realistic'.

What's with the California obsession? Have you ever been here? It isn't that great.

    Hello Cho-

thank you for your concern about our future..but Ive had a good job for over 3 years now.. so her father doesnt need to worry about my back account at the moment.

    Hopkins-

dont you know California has the best of life?- Sun, waves, the Beach Boys, the best burger place, and people who like to enjoy just like me [IMG]
