I paid my tailor a visit last night to get a few pairs of pants altered. I asked for:

1) Slimming through the leg
2) 2" cuffs
3) Little to no break

By the way, $45 to hem/cuff and slim a pair of pants - about right?

Maybe my tailor is just really inexpensive (does great work), but I just recently had a jacket altered, and 4 pairs of pants altered the same way as yours for $68.

That seems cheap. I wish mine wasn't as expensive. LA vs. Bay Area I guess... there are probably 100x the tailors in your area than here. I go to the guy people consider the best. I'll pay 20% more for peace of mind...

I got 10 pairs of pants hemmed and a sweater dry cleaned for $80.

All with no break and one pair with 2" cuffs.

this is exactly how I order my pants. In my world, the price is fair, my tailor wants like $18 alone to finish the bottom of pants

Yeah, it was $15 for cuffing and $30 for slimming in the seat area.

You got to let me know which tailor you go to. I have had no luck finding a competent yet reasonably priced tailor in LA.

I have no issues with giving Ricardo's Tailoring more business. Nice guy, great work, pricing is a bit high but it's the place that was recommended to me, and I'm willing to pay, so...

He's in Sunnyvale.

I am fine bringing my pants to the cleaners for cuffings and hemming. You just have to be very adamant telling them exactly how you want something. (i.e. "2" cuffs are for women's pants" or no break being "too short")

Other jobs I am not so confident. Not so sure how tricky a job it is to slim pants. I've had the seat taken in on a pair of pants once and it went fine.

My old Vietnamese dry cleaning lady in Santa Clara. I go to her only for drycleaning and to hem my pants. Sometimes to taper my shirts, but never for big time stuff like pants slimming and anything to do with jackets.

She's super nice and knows I'm a student so she gives me a "discount."

A fee of $15 for hemming pants seems to be about standard in my neck of the woods.
