Most of what I see in SF is appropriate for the urban environment only. I was just wondering if anyone here is an 'outdoorsman.' I go into moose territory twice a year and have a completely different set of clothes and footware for that country.

It has taken years to slowly discover what works and what doesn't, mostly by trial and error. Luckily the bush is so hard on all the gear that the mistakes are shortlived.

Good technical synthetics, wool, and heavy canvas. Since you only go twice a year I'm guessing you use a guide?

I go camping about twice a year....sleeping in a tent and sleeping bag in the middle of the woods, not in a cabin or anything like that. Obviously, I need different clothes for that than I would to wear to my office, but I go camping so infrequently that it hasn't resulted in owning 2 totally different wardrobes. I pretty much just have one or two outfits for my outdoorsy activities.

True indeed. No worse way to be miserable outdoors than inadequate footwear, especially. For my own hunting/ fishing/ general outdoor clothing, I rely heavily on Filson.

I am a hunter as well but my Cabela's MTO50 is far from my preppy/ sophisticated daily wear.

I've got some great pictures from my father and brother's hunt club of their style of clothing when the club began in the 20s. I'll try to upload it.

Do a lot of outdoorsy stuff, mostly climbing (rock and ice), as well as some caving and kayaking. Completely different gear.

Although, I may post a picture of me wearing a tweed jacket at the Everest base camp sometime next year.

Oh I might qualify as an outdoorsman. I'm in it as often as possible and have spent a lot of time and money on gear over the years.

I'm running a mineral exploration project in the sheild. The windows between leaves and snow are the best for seeing the ground and tend to be times when I get up there. Other surveys happen when we get the resources together

After my GPS, compass, and neoprene boots, my most crucial piece of gear is a Gerber machete/bush knife with a hooked tip.

I get my technicals and synthetics from MEC

This is also a life saver when it's warm:http://www.bugshirt.com/

Wilderness is a state of mind, and there is a garden variety.
