Went to the midnight showing of The Hunger Games with my daughter.

The movie really exceeded my expectations. It was very good.

I don't know how they could have done a better job. An excellent movie adaptation of the book.

    Highly recommended.

I saw this with my niece last night. 100x better than the twilight crap she was into a few years ago. Feel free to encourage the tween/teen girls in your family to get into this series if they already haven't.

Twilight's message: Shirk all responsibility to endulge your crush on a hot guy
Hunger Games' message: The world is a cruel place, be independent and strong-willed

Will have to catch it shortly. Was a little undecided about seeing it, but this helps make up my mind. Almost certainly would have seen it just because Jennifer Lawrence was so damned good in "Winter's Bone."

My daughter is reading that right now. I will probably have to see the movie when she's done, so I'm glad to hear it's good.

I was so disappointed with Battle Royale. I remember not caring at all about the characters that died and thinking that the plot made absolutely no sense.

A bald faced rip off of Battle Royale. And the bitch who wrote it had the balls to say she'd never heard of BR.

    Yeah right, you hack.

It's not like BR was the first story with this premise.

Munch is right, the author also ripped off Running Man.

That's the first one that I remember. The premise also kind of reminds me of The Long Walk, which is also written by Stephen King.

I remember an indie movie circa '98 or '99 that was shot like a reality show with this basic premise. The baddest killer was a woman who had been through several series of the show already and was 6 months pregnant. I thought it was pretty good at the time but I can't recall the title right now.

Yes, I remember the poster for that. Let me think for a moment.

EDIT - I think it came out around the same time as the Truman show, yes?

    EDIT 2 - Series 7: The Contenders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Series_7:_The_Contenders

Although the premise has been done before, The Hunger Games' plot is too similar to Battle Royale for anyone to pass it off as chance. That the author of the Hunger Games purported to have never even heard of BR is pure crap, especially since Koushon Takami was always pretty open about the influences for Battle Royale.

How 'bout I rename myself Reynard 370 and recite every one of your posts ten years after you post it?
