I just wanted to start a discussion about the different types of humor and races.

Just as an example, I really noticed some differences with regards to humor since I've been salsa dancing. There are some Latino/as that look at me like I'm crazy when I'm joking around or they actually take my jokes seriously and don't realize I'm kidding. It also depends on where they're from, i.e. P.R. Peru, D.M., etc...

Obviously, it's not ALL culturally related since everyone has a different sense of humor but I'm just talking about the differences of humor between cultures and ethnicity.

    Discuss?

Every time I hear Garrison Keillor warbling on NPR, I think to myself, "God, white people aren't funny." (And then I invariably laugh when I remember the moment in The Wire when Bodie travels out of Baltimore for the first time and is stunned to hear Garrison Keillor on the radio.)

Alot of Latinos I joke with are the same way. Isn't there sarcasm in those cultures? There must be! This is why I started the thread.

Sensitive mainlanders (white people) have ruined Hawaii's make fun of every culture attitude, it's quite sad really. Yes, the humour was built upon ethnic stereotypes, but everyone was made fun of anyway so it was pretty balanced. The world will be a sadder place without Frank De Lima's jokes

ime, people here like slapstick, and 'variety shows' that have "funny" hosts use mandarin wordplay to draw the laughs. understand the pronounciation of a word can have several meanings in the chinese language.

it depends on their handle of the language the joke is delivered in.

I find Latinos to have a great sense of humor. They LOVE self-deprecating white people.

Americans don't understand sarcasm either, thus the reliance on ... not! or ... just kidding after a sarcastic remark. It's like they have to explain the joke.
