a tux is evening wear. And even if I was attending an evening wedding, unless i was a groomsmen, I wouldnt wear a tux. Im getting married in july on a saturday afternoon...no tuxes.

It is a suit, about as simple/classic as you can imagine. I do believe it will work for weddings although I guess I'll find out next month if I'm asked to leave

Should I clarify it will not in fact be my own wedding but a wedding I will attend as a guest? That goes for the funeral as well

personally, I would only wear if i was part of the wedding...and the wedding was in the evening. a dark suit is the best choice in my opinion. of course there are other factors id consider, but you cant go wrong with a dark suit.
